Lying at an altitude of 450 – 748 m above sea level, the green hills and the pristine forests of the area provide ample opportunity for trekking and wildlife safari. Sambhar, Deer, Wild Dogs, Jungle Cats, Wild Boar, Bison, Elephants, etc are commonly spotted in Idduki Wildlife Sanctuary. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the part of the Wayanad Plateau. It is the home to varied wild animals like tiger, leopards, elephant, wild dog, bear and bison. It is the integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is the perfect place to see the majestic tigers taking guard of their kingdom. Located in the Eranakulam district on the northern bank of the Periyar River, Thattekkad Wildlife Sanctuary is home to 500 species of exotic birds. The thick evergreen cover of the sanctuary is heaven for these winged creatures. Night Heron, Sunbird, Jungle Fowl, Hornbill, Ceylon Frogmoth, Falcon Grey, etc are commonly spotted bird species in this Thattekkad wildlife sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary is opened all the year round but the best time to visit the sanctuary is May and July.
